Cairo, Egypt – Despite submitting one of the most impressive bids to the IOC (International Olympic Committee) for the 2020 Summer Games, Libya’s chances of hosting the games are starting to fade says IOC observer Roger Black. “Muammar Gaddafi really needs to understand that the IOC is not going to be bought off like the FIFA people, and the sheer notion of impropriety might scare them away from Libya for decades.” Gaddafi went to great lengths to impress the committee during their recent visit, but the ongoing NATO airstrikes were not big confidence builder, said Black, he added “If Gaddafi really wants to win them over he’s going to have to find a way to differentiate Libya from the current favorite Yemen, and show the IOC a real value add besides the cliche’d war-toursim angle.” The IOC for it’s part declined to comment on what bid it was currently favoring, and reiterated that the final selection will be unveiled at a ceremony in Buenos Aires on September 7th, 2013.
